BASIC DESCRIPTION
A burn treatment nurse practitioner assesses, manages, and evaluates the care of patient in a burn unit. Other responsibilities include health teaching, discharge planning, and coordination of care of patients in a burn unit. Administrative responsibilities include participation in research activities, providing training and lectures at partner institutions or community groups, and participating in quality improvement projects or activities.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Registered nurse preparation and Nurse Practitioner certification are required; at least 2 to 3 years acute care experience preferably in intensive care unit is highly desired in most positions; Advanced Burn Life Support course is available from the American Burn Association.
