The University of San Diego School of Business and Hahn School of Nursing and Health Sciences have begun a partnership to launch a new certification program for nurses and health care professionals who want to start or expand a business. They will offer classes on topics of entrepreneurship, teaching students how to create a business plan and other practical entrepreneurial skills.

Students in the program will attend eight seminar-style workshops on Saturdays from 9 AM to noon. Each lesson will be taught by experts from the University San Diego, covering topics in marketing, financing, negotiating, leadership, and more. The course will end with students making “Shark Tank” style presentations to a group of investment professionals. Each student is expected to complete the course with an understanding of market demographics, how to use social media, and how to create a financing and operational plan.

Dean of the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing, Sally Brosz Hardin, knows that many talented nurses and health care professionals have innovative ideas for products and services that can improve the health care system, but no way to put their ideas into practice. This new program gives nurses the tools they need to make their dreams become a reality. Jaime Alonso Gomez, Dean of the School of Business, also spoke up about the program saying that what really sets it apart is the opportunity for students to leave with a comprehensive plan that has been vetted by real-world investors and venture capitalists.

The program is priced at $2,500 and will run Oct. 8, 2016 through Feb. 4, 2017.
