Western Governors University (WGU) is a nonprofit online university offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Nursing through their College of Health Professions. To honor National Nurses Week, which occurs next month, WGU decided to honor nurses for their important role in providing health and safety to their communities with $250,000 in scholarships to 125 nurses pursuing degrees through their program.

WGU has decided to call their scholarship the “WGU Loves Nurses Scholarship.” Each of their awards to students will be $500-$2,000 per six-month term for up to four terms. New and enrolling students can apply for the scholarships, with eligibility requiring that applicants be officially admitted to WGU, complete the scholarship application and essay, and sit down for an interview with a WGU scholarship counselor. Students can apply for the scholarships now through July 31, 2016 and 125 recipients will be selected based on academic record, financial need, and readiness for online study.

WGU’s online programs are designed to fit the lives of busy working nurses, providing them with knowledge, skills, and expert credentials. The university was recognized as A National League for Nursing 2015 Center of Excellence for creating environments to enhance student learning and professional development, and for being one of the top five producers of bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing awarded to minority students.

All BSN, MSN, and MBA programs at WGU are competency-based, using a model that measures learning over time spent in class. Students are able to complete work on their own time, and prove what they’ve learned when they’re ready, allowing them to advance their nursing careers without neglecting work and personal or family obligations. WGU provides high-quality resources and one-on-one faculty support to their nursing students so that they always have the support they need even when they aren’t learning in conventional classrooms.
