The George Washington University (GW) School of Nursing graduated its largest-ever undergraduate class last week according to a press release. The graduating class totaled 145 students enrolled in either the accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing or the Bachelor of Science in Nursing for registered nurses.

The nursing school’s enrollment nearly doubled between 2012 and 2017, and officials have hired more faculty to keep up with the demand. The school’s overall enrollment in 2018 hit an all-time high with 402 students.

Richard Ricciardi, a professor of health policy at GW Nursing and the president-elect of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, served as the keynote speaker at the event. He encouraged graduates, telling them that they “will not regret becoming a nurse” because they will meet people wherever they work and change people’s lives.

According to GWHatchet.com, Ricciardi told the graduating class, “Health care is disorganized, it’s fragmented, but you’re going to fix all that because it has to be fixed in the next generation.”
