Montefiore Medical Group Introduces Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program

In a groundbreaking move, Montefiore Medical Group (MMG) has unveiled a unique a Nurse Practitioner (NP) Fellowship in Primary Care, distinguishing itself as a pioneer in New York State. This program, made possible through an alliance with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), aims to equip both new and practicing NPs with practical experience and training under the guidance of experienced NP mentors, physicians, and healthcare professionals. By immersing participants in direct patient care and clinical settings, this fellowship serves as a crucial initiative to address provider shortages and enhance the quality of patient care in the region.

Kathryn Tanner, FNP, Director of the Nurse Practitioner Fellowship in Primary Care at Montefiore Medical Group, emphasized the importance of this program in preparing NPs for success in delivering primary care services. The initiative not only invests in the professional development of NPs but also contributes to the overall well-being of the Bronx community.

With an increasing demand for primary care providers, NPs are assuming a pivotal role in healthcare delivery. The inaugural cohort of the Montefiore NP Fellowship commenced on September 9, marking the beginning of a year-long journey that will culminate in NPs contributing expert care within MMG facilities for at least two years.
