Tessa Migliano, a Milwaukee-area nurse, and her son, Lukas, saved a man’s life when he collapsed on the pickleball court. They were in the right place at just the right time, and for playing the role of lifesaver, Migliano is our Nurse of the Week.

Migliano wanted to get in one more pickleball game with her son before he left town for school.

“We were not supposed to go there. I don’t ever go at that time of the day,” she says. “It was just fate that we were just there.”

The courts at the Milwaukee Sports Complex in Franklin were packed, and Joe Bruno was standing nearby waiting to play. Then he suffered a heart attack and collapsed on the court.

Our Nurse of the Week: Tessa Migliano, a Milwaukee-area nurse, and her son, Lukas, saved a man’s life when he suffered a heart attack on the pickleball court. The Franklin Fire Department honored Migliano and her son for their lifesaving efforts.

Migliano, a cardiac nurse, leaped into action and immediately began CPR.

“It was just instinctive. I guess that’s what I was trained to do, and I’m thankful for that,” Migliano says.

For Bruno, it was a lifesaver.

So was the fact that everyone knew exactly where the defibrillator was, and Migliano’s son raced to get it.

When paramedics arrived, Bruno was already alert and talking.

Last week, the Franklin Fire Department honored Migliano and her for their lifesaving efforts.

“There are lifesavers in this world, and I’m grateful for that,” Bruno says.
