Gwendolyn Gaston Appointed New Dean of Nursing at Dallas Nursing Institute

Effective as of September, Gwendolyn Gaston was appointed the new Dean of Nursing at the Dallas Nursing Institute (DNI) to kick off the 2016 academic year. Throughout her appointment at DNI, Gaston is expected to help further advance the nursing programs and prepare exceptional future nurses to enter the nursing workforce. Gaston will also be in charge of efforts to broaden academic programs offered by the nonprofit institution and continue DNI’s service to the larger Dallas community.

Gaston holds a diploma in nursing from Kings County School of Nursing (Brooklyn College of CUNY), Master of Science and Bachelor of Sciences degrees in Nursing from the University of Phoenix, Southfield, MI, and she is currently working toward her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Capella University, Minneapolis, MN.

Dean of Nursing is not Gaston’s first role at DNI. Previous roles at DNI include Assistant Director for Nursing Laboratories and Didactic Faculty Nursing, and her most recent role as Director of Nursing for the Associate Degree of Nursing Program. Prior to working at DNI, Gaston held positions as Interim Director of Urgent Care at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY; Senior Director of Ambulatory Clinical Services at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, TX; and adjunct faculty at Davenport University in Dearborn, MI.

The faculty and students at DNI are excited to welcome Gaston into her new role as Dean of Nursing. With a 10-year track record of service to the Institute, Gaston has proven results in elevating student outcomes through her experience in academic administration, admissions, recruitment, and curriculum development. DNI Trustee, Donald Packham, is confident in Gaston’s abilities to greatly contribute to the advancement of DNI in her new role, serving as an essential contributor in delivering exceptional academic experiences to the Institute’s students.
