Loyola University School of Nursing Appoints Lorna Finnegan Dean Ahead of 2019 School Year

Loyola University’s Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing is welcoming a new dean ahead of the 2019-2020 school year. Lorna Finnegan will become the dean in July 2019 after working as the executive associate dean and associate professor of health systems science at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Nursing.

Finnegan is taking over for Dean Vicki Keough, who will return to a faculty position in the Loyola School of Nursing. Keough announced that she would be transitioning out of her role as dean in December 2017 but agreed to stay in her position while the university searched for her successor.

Interim Provost Margaret Faut Callahan tells LoyolaPhoenix.com, “Dr. Finnegan’s impressive background as a dedicated nurse practitioner, scholar, and an accomplished higher education administrator will be an asset to the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, its faculty, and students. Her commitment to Loyola’s mission of preparing students to treat the human body and spirit will help us realize our goals of scholarly excellence, service, and advancing high-impact research.”

Finnegan’s past work has helped expand access to primary care and minimize health disparities. She has worked on grants, served as a visiting scholar in several South Asian countries, and published research throughout the world in addition to serving as a practicing nurse.
