In response to a nationwide effort to increase and improve all graduate nursing programs, the University of Portland School of Nursing has created two new master’s programs. According to UPBeacon.com, these new programs will bring new directions and opportunities to nursing students who want to continue their education beyond their first four years. The two new Master of Science (MS) programs include:
Innovation in Health Systems
This master’s degree program is intended to provide nursing students with the necessary education for mid-level and above leadership positions like nursing unit director, executive, or leader of multi-systems. With current healthcare reform bringing rapid changes to healthcare systems, organizations, and performance, innovation is a central concept. Trends are changing quickly, including reordering how we deliver healthcare service at all levels.
Quality and Safety in Health Systems Program
The Quality and Safety program is the first of its kind in the Western US and will be open to all health professionals students, not just graduate level nursing students. Research on medical errors and safe patient care has increased over the last decade and a half. The goal of this program is to produce reliable practitioners to prevent medical error and promote safe patient care, initiatives that require further education.
Both programs are five semesters long, ending with a summer semester. Applications will open January 15th for the programs effective in Fall 2017.
