Taylor Fry, RN, BSN, was a sophomore in high school when her younger sister, Grace, battled acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Fry supported her sister through every treatment, and watching Grace beat cancer inspired her to become an oncology nurse .

After completing high school, Fry pursued a nursing degree and now works as a registered nurse in the Inpatient Hematology/Oncology unit at Children’s Nebraska – with the same team at the hospital that saved her sister’s life.

Daily Nurse recognizes Taylor Fry as Nurse of the Week for her dedication to caring for and supporting children undergoing cancer treatment and their families. Fry is also focused on improving her skills and knowledge in this specialty.

Grace, who is now thriving and a sophomore in high school, attributes her survival to the nurses and doctors at Children’s Nebraska. Fry says that her sister’s exceptional care and closeness with the nurses during her treatment motivated her to become a nurse and provide similar care to other children and families..

“Grace’s nurses supported her and our family throughout her journey, celebrating her victories and comforting us during hardships. Not only did her nurses ensure she received the very best care, but they also cared for our entire family and touched all our lives forever,” says Fry.

Fry feels honored to care for the children in the hematology/oncology unit at Children’s Nebraska. She hopes to bring positivity to their days in the hospital and adds that every patient holds a special place in her heart.

After being a witness to my sister battling and surviving cancer, I can truly say that these children are the strongest and bravest people I know. I am grateful to provide care to my amazing patients and hope to add positivity to their days in the hospital as much as possible. Every patient holds a special place in my heart,” says Fry.
